Plan for the best but expect the worst. My last kitchen remodel was a disaster. What was supposed to take 3 weeks took over 6 months to be completed. Make sure you do your homework I unfortunately used a company i had not heard of the price was right but I guess you get what you pay for.

True! Build trust and communicate with the contractor.. even better if you become friends.. he will most likely give you tips and pointers that will save you money and time... unlike if you are not cooperative or you let your contractor alone... you dont know what he might do to your budget.. :D

My wife and I underestimated our remodel. We moved to a new city, where we didn't know many people. So finding a contractor that we knew, or could rely on from someone else was hard to come across.
We found one we thought was fair and trustworthy. Established a good relationship after a few walk through and conversation.
I just wished we made clear the details of our contract like, the cleanup and a few things were on backorder. We didn't do our "homework" so I'm sure we could've found a better deal.
But like I said overall we were satisfied.

A thorough explanation on what to expect with kitchen remodeling. It is true when you said that you should have a good working relationship with your contractor.

Be definite with your job requirements in the contract. If you forget something, you can ask your contractor about it. If you are in good terms, you can often do a deal outside of your contract, but it would be best to cover every terms in your initial contract.
