This is quite a interesting read, it all depends really on how much you want to spend on your flooring. If you want a cheap opition I guess it's best to go for the opition of having the flooring put down after you have had the kitchen cabinets installed. Then if you don't care how much you want to spend on your flooring, have it put down first, then maybe cover it so it doesn't get dirty.

Again, it goes back to your style. For me, personally, I like to prime my space before I work with it, just because it gives me more flexibility during design. So in this case, putting the flooring down is a more ideal choice.

I think a lot of people think they should wait on the flooring is because they're afraid with all the work that needs to be done above them that it's sure to get beaten up.

That's probably more reason to know who your contractor is and talk to people their sub-contractors have worked with.

I was always counciled that you should put your flooring down first, before cabinets or appliances. That way, if you ever change your layout, you don't have to worry about subfloor showing underneath the cabinets when they're moved. Also, it makes installation a lot easier. This is what the guys at www.totalkitchenstore.com told me while they were planning my project. It all came out wonderfully.
